The ultimate fruity summer cocktails with cold brew.
A balmy summer evening on the beach, by the river, at the lake, in the backyard, with friends… What could be better than a fresh, fruity drink? The only question is: Which one? How about something other than a mojito, caipirinha, or gin and tonic? We asked around the Mount Hagen editorial office—and lo and behold: The most creative summer cocktails all have cold brew as their base. (Does that surprise anyone?) And here they are:

Kristin Oldenburg
Our favorite mocktail: The espresso tonic.
It’s simple, very refreshing, and not just for designated drivers. With espresso tonic, you have two options: Either use a freshly brewed espresso as a base, such as our Demeter-certified Peru espresso and let it cool (the quickest method is to shake it with ice cubes), or use a cold brew, such as our fruity Barista Crema, whose citrus notes harmonize very well with the brewing method. You can find out how to easily prepare a cold brew here: “The ultimate cold brew recipe for at home”.
What you need for an espresso tonic:
- 2 fl oz espresso or cold brew
- 6 fl oz tonic water
- Ice cubes
- Lemon peel, orange peel, or rosemary sprigs for garnish
- 1 tall glass
Here’s how it’s done:
Put ice cubes in a glass, add tonic water, and then slowly pour the cold brew over it. This preserves the individual layers of the different liquids. Finally, garnish with lemon zest and a sprig of rosemary, for example. Done. Super easy, super refreshing.
Our no. 2: The coffee fruit bowl.
Also alcohol-free, incredibly delicious, but requires some preparation. That’s why we’ve made the recipe for a larger quantity – for everyone.
The ingredients:
- 34 fl oz cold brew (e.g., Barista Crema or Arabica Crema)
- 7 oz fresh strawberries
- 3.5 oz grapes
- 2 oranges
- Brown sugar (to taste)
- Ice cubes
- Fresh fruit for decoration
Here’s how to make the coffee fruit bowl:
Quarter the strawberries, halve the grapes, and fillet the oranges. Pour the cold brew over the fruit and let it steep for 6 (!) hours. If the fruit doesn’t look so great after that, you can take it out and replace it with fresh fruit. But you don’t have to – especially since it has absorbed a lot of the coffee’s flavors. Sweeten the coffee-fruit mix to taste and serve with lots of ice.
Tip: Making ice cubes out of leftover coffee not only looks cool, it also intensifies the coffee flavor of your cocktail.
The no. 3: The Caribbean Dream – our summer favorite with alcohol.
A little exotic – nomen est omen – yet very fruity: The Caribbean Dream is also a cold brew specialty. Its diverse flavors go particularly well with rum and orange.
The ingredients:
- 1.4 fl oz rum
- 0.7 fl oz rum liqueur
- 1.4 fl oz coconut water
- 2 fl oz cold brew (Mount Hagen Arabica Crema)
- Crushed ice
- Orange zest
Here’s how to prepare the Caribbean Dream:
Pour cold brew, rum, rum liqueur, and coconut water into a large glass and fill with crushed ice, preferably coarse. Add orange zest – cheers!
